Description
- Cefixime-A is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against a wide variety of bacteria.
- It is indicated for the treatment of upper and lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and other acute infections caused by susceptible microorganisms.
- Cefixime is absorbed at about 40-50%, easily achievable plasma concentrations, and kills bacteria by interfering in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall.
- The recommended dosage for adults is 200-400 mg daily, while for children it is 8 mg/kg/day and adjusted according to age and weight.
- Cefixime-A is generally well tolerated, with mild and self-limiting adverse reactions observed in clinical trials.
- It should be used with caution in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics, penicillin-sensitive patients, and those with markedly impaired renal function.
- Storage conditions require the product to be kept below 30°C temperature, protected from light and moisture, and out of the reach of children.
