Pharmacology

  • Contains magaldrate and simethicone
  • Magaldrate neutralizes gastric acid
  • Magaldrate decreases activity of pepsin
  • Simethicone enables gas bubble coalescence

Dosage & Administration

  • 1-4 chewable tablets after meals
  • 1-4 chewable tablets at bedtime
  • 2-4 teaspoonfuls of suspension after meals
  • 2-4 teaspoonfuls of suspension at bedtime

Interaction

  • Should not be used with Tetracycline
  • May affect bioavailability of propranolol
  • May affect bioavailability of isoniazid
  • May affect bioavailability of prednisolone
  • May affect bioavailability of naproxen

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to magnesium and aluminium
  • Contraindicated in impaired renal functions

Side Effects

  • Uncommon gastrointestinal side effects
  • Possible diarrhea with excessive consumption
  • Possible constipation with excessive consumption
  • Possible regurgitation with excessive consumption

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • May be used in pregnancy if indicated
  • Excessive dosage should be avoided during pregnancy
  • May pass into breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Care should be taken in decreased kidney function
  • Care should be taken in hypophosphatemia
  • Care should be taken in weak individuals

Overdose Effects

  • Over dosage is a rare case
