Indications

• Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis
• Effective Intraocular Antibiotic
• Prevention of Postoperative Bacterial Endophthalmitis
• Susceptible organisms include Aerobic Gram-positive and Aerobic Gram-negative microorganisms, and Other microorganisms like Chlamydia trachomatis

Pharmacology

• Antimicrobial action from inhibition of topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV
• Inhibition involved in replication, transcription, and repair of bacterial DNA
• Key role in partitioning of chromosomal DNA during bacterial cell division

Dosage & Administration

• Dosage for Eye Drops and Eye Ointment administration
• Recommended dosage for Intraocular injection

Interaction

• In vitro studies indicating no inhibition of specific cytochrome P450 isozymes

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or to other quinolones
• Contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity to any of the components in the medication

Side Effects

• Frequently reported ocular adverse events
• Nonocular adverse events reported at a specific rate

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use during pregnancy if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus
• Caution advised when administered to a nursing mother

Precautions & Warnings

• Potential overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi, with prolonged use
• Recommendation for examination with magnification when clinical judgment dictates
• Advice against wearing contact lenses with signs and symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis
