Indications
- Treatment of invasive aspergillosis
- Treatment of candidemia
- Treatment of disseminated candidiasis
- Treatment of esophageal candidiasis
- Treatment of serious infections caused by Scedosporium apiospermum and Fusarium Species
- Treatment for patients intolerant of, or refractory to other therapy
Pharmacology
- Voriconazole is a triazole antifungal medication
- Binds and inhibits ergosterol synthesis
- Inhibits CYP450-dependent 14-alpha sterol demethylase
- Results in depletion of ergosterol in fungal cell membrane
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration
- Recommended intake at least one hour before or after a meal
- Different dosage regimens for patients above and below 40 kg body weight
- Injection administration with specific dosage regimens for different infections
Interaction
- Potential interactions with CYP3A4, CYP2C9, and CYP2C19 inhibitors and inducers
