Indications
- Productive cough
- Acute and chronic inflammatory disorders of upper and lower respiratory tracts
- Asthmatic bronchitis
- Bronchiectasis
- Chronic pneumonia
Pharmacological Properties
- Active metabolite of bromhexine
- Greater bronchosecretolytic effect than bromhexine
- Improves sputum rheology
- Hydrating mechanism
- Liquefaction of mucus
- Facilitates expectoration
- Reduces dyspnea
- Stimulates production of surfactant
- Reduces bronchial hyperactivity
- Anti-inflammatory properties
Dosage & Administration
- Pediatric Drops: 0-6 months: 0.5 ml 2 times a day
- Syrup for 2-5 years: 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoonful) 2-3 times a day
- Sustained release capsule for adults and children over 12 years old: 1 capsule once daily
Interaction
- Should not be taken simultaneously with antitussives
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Ambroxol or Bromhexine

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Teratogenic and fetal toxicity studies have shown no harmful effect
- Advised not to use during the 1st trimester

- Cautious use for patients with convulsive disorders
- Cautious use for patients with hepatic and renal insufficiency
