Strength
- 20 mg
- 40 mg
Dosage Instructions
- 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks (adults and adolescents)
- 20 mg once daily for maintenance of healing (adults and adolescents)
- 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks to reduce NSAID associated gastric ulcer risk
- 20 mg twice daily for 7 days for H. pylori eradication (adults and adolescents)
- 40-80 mg twice daily for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and idiopathic hypersecretion (adults)
- Dosage for children based on weight and age
Administration Instructions
- Swallow whole with liquid
- Dispersible in non-carbonated water if needed
- Avoid chewing or crushing
Pharmacology
- Inhibition of gastric acid production by blocking the proton pump
- Effective for short-term treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers
- Used in the prevention and treatment of NSAID associated gastric ulcers
Interaction
- Metabolized in the liver by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4
- No clinically relevant interactions with specific CYP enzymes expected
- Potential interference with drug absorption where gastric pH is important
- Increased plasma levels of certain drugs observed in co-administration studies
