Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration

  • One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water
  • Can be taken with or without food
  • Dissolve effervescent tablet in a glass of water and drink orally
  • Stir the solution with a spoon before drinking

Interaction

  • Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
  • Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
  • Concomitant use with ion exchange resins or laxatives may reduce Vitamin D absorption
  • Interference with the absorption of tetracycline preparations
  • Increased toxicity of cardiac glycosides during treatment
  • Calcium products should not be taken within two hours of foods high in oxalic acid and phytic acid

Contraindications

  • Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
  • Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
  • Hypersensitivity to the components
  • Severe renal insufficiencies
  • Concomitant digoxin therapy

Precautions & Warnings

  • Monitoring of serum calcium levels during long-term treatment

  • Monitoring of serum electrolytes, renal function, and diuresis
