Indications
- Replacement therapy in hypothyroidism
- Suppression of TSH levels
- Goitrogenic effects suppression

Pharmacology
- Contains synthetic Levothyroxine
- Identical to natural hormone T4
- Conversion of T4 to the active T3 in peripheral tissues
- TBG as major carrier of T4
Dosage and administration
- Initial starting dose: 25-50 mcg/day
- Dose adjustment in 6-8 week intervals
- Severe hypothyroidism initial dose: 12.5-25 mcg/day
- Pediatric dosage: based on age and weight
Interaction
- Concurrent use of tri/tetracyclic antidepressants
- Administration of sertraline
- Addition of Thyrin to antidiabetic or insulin therapy
- Monitoring of diabetic control
Contraindications
- Untreated subclinical or overt Thyrotoxicosis
- Acute Myocardial Infarction
- Uncorrected Adrenal failure

- Adverse reactions primarily related to hyperthyroidism
- General, central nervous system, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, dermatologic effects
