Description

KetoDruff 2% Shampoo is indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis of infections in which the yeast Malassezia is involved, such as pityriasis versicolor, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and dandruff. It works by stopping the growth of the fungus.

Recommended usage

• Shampoo:
  • Treatment:
    • Once daily for 5 days for pityriasis versicolor
    • Twice weekly for 2 to 4 weeks for seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff
  • Prophylaxis:
    • Once daily for 3 days for pityriasis versicolor before the summer
    • Once every 1 or 2 weeks for seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff

Pharmacology

Inhibits ergosterol synthesis and increased fungal cellular permeability due to reduced amounts of ergosterol

Interaction information

• Tablet: Reduced absorption with certain medications, reduced plasma concentrations with others, may reduce efficacy of oral contraceptives, may increase serum levels of CYP3A4 substrates

• Known hypersensitivity to ketoconazole

Precautions and warnings

• Shampoo:
  • Gradual withdrawal of steroid therapy recommended in patients on prolonged treatment with topical corticosteroids
  • Avoid contact with the eyes
• Cream:
  • Not for ophthalmic use
  • Allow recovery period after using potent topical corticosteroid
  • Avoid contact with the eyes
• Tablet:
  • Monitor liver enzyme levels in patients with previous history of liver disease
  • Discontinue therapy if symptoms of liver reaction occur
