Description
- Treatment of essential hypertension in adults
- Reduction of cardiovascular morbidity in adults with atherothrombotic cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes mellitus with documented target organ damage
- Non-peptide angiotensin-ll receptor antagonist
- Dosage must be individualized
- Blood pressure response is dose-related
- Maximum reduction of blood pressure is generally attained after 4 weeks
- Usual starting dose is 40 mg once a day
- Pediatric use is not established
- No initial dosage adjustment necessary for elderly patients or patients with renal impairment
- Avoid co-administration with aliskiren in patients with diabetes
- Known hypersensitivity to the product or any of its components is a contraindication
- Side effects may include sinus pain, congestion, back pain, diarrhea, intermittent claudication, and skin ulcer
- Pregnancy Category C (first trimester) and D (second and third trimester)
- Avoid fetal or neonatal exposure
- Monitor carefully in patients with impaired hepatic or renal function
- Do not store above 30°C
- Protect from light and high humidity
- Keep out of the reach of children
