Description

  • Treatment of essential hypertension in adults
  • Reduction of cardiovascular morbidity in adults with atherothrombotic cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes mellitus with documented target organ damage
  • Non-peptide angiotensin-ll receptor antagonist
  • Dosage must be individualized
  • Blood pressure response is dose-related
  • Maximum reduction of blood pressure is generally attained after 4 weeks
  • Usual starting dose is 40 mg once a day
  • Pediatric use is not established
  • No initial dosage adjustment necessary for elderly patients or patients with renal impairment
  • Avoid co-administration with aliskiren in patients with diabetes
  • Known hypersensitivity to the product or any of its components is a contraindication
  • Side effects may include sinus pain, congestion, back pain, diarrhea, intermittent claudication, and skin ulcer
  • Pregnancy Category C (first trimester) and D (second and third trimester)
