Indications
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Alleviating complications of itching, pain, and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergies such as hayfever and urticaria
Pharmacology
- Anti-allergic properties
- Similar to sodium chromoglycate in prophylactic treatment of asthma
- Antihistamine properties
- Marked anti-anaphylactic properties
- Effective in preventing asthmatic attacks
- Sustained inhibitory effect on histamine reactions
- Experimental investigations in asthmatic subjects
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 1 mg twice daily with food, may increase to 2 mg in severe cases
- Children above 3 years: 1 mg twice daily with food
- Children known to be easily sedated should begin with 0.5 to 1 mg at night
- Dosage adjustment for elderly patients
Interaction
- Potentiate effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
- Reversible fall in platelet count observed with oral antidiabetic agents
Contraindications
- Avoid concomitant use with oral antidiabetic agents
- No evidence of teratogenic effect, but not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings
- Continue previous treatment for minimum of two weeks after starting to avoid exacerbation of asthma
- Systemic corticosteroid and ACTH treatment
- Supplement Broket treatment with specific antimicrobial therapy if intercurrent infection occurs
- Impaired reactions during the first day of treatment, warning regarding operation of vehicles or machinery
- Advised to avoid alcoholic drinks
