Indications
- prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
- symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- alleviating complications of itching, pain, and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
- symptomatic treatment of allergies such as hayfever and urticaria
Pharmacology

Dosage and administration
- 1 mg twice daily for adults with food
- 2 mg twice daily for severe cases in adults
- 1 mg twice daily for children above 3 years with food
- 0.5 to 1 mg at night for sedated patients
- same as adult dose for elderly
Interaction
- potentiate effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
- reversible fall in platelet count when concomitantly used with oral antidiabetic agents
Contraindications
- avoid concurrent use with oral antidiabetic agents
- not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding

Precautions and warnings
- continue previous treatment for a minimum of two weeks after starting Ketifen
- supplement Ketifen treatment with specific antimicrobial therapy during intercurrent infection
- impaired reactions during the first day of treatment
- potentiate effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohol
