Description
- Ketof 1 mg/5 ml Syrup is indicated in bronchial asthma, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, hayfever, urticaria.
Indications
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Alleviating the complications of itching, pain and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergy such as hayfever, urticaria
Pharmacology
- Anti-allergic properties
- Anti-histamine properties
- Anti-anaphylactic properties
- Sustained inhibitory effect on histamine reactions
- Prevention of asthmatic attacks
- Effectiveness in reducing asthma attacks in long-term clinical trials
- Progressive reduction of corticosteroids and/or bronchodilators
Dosage and administration
- Adults: 1 mg twice daily with food, may be increased to 2 mg in severe cases
- Children above 3 years: 1 mg twice daily with food
- Elderly: Same as adult dose or as advised by the physician
Interactions
- Potentiation of effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
- Reversible fall in the platelet count when used concomitantly with oral antidiabetic agents
Contraindications
- Avoid concomitant use with oral antidiabetic agents
- Caution advised during pregnancy and when breastfeeding
Side effects
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Slight dizziness
Pregnancy and lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation due to lack of evidence on teratogenic effects
Precautions and warnings
- Continuation of previous treatment for a minimum of two weeks after starting Ketof
- Supplementation with specific antimicrobial therapy in case of intercurrent infection
- Warning against operating vehicles or machinery during initial treatment days
- Advice to avoid alcoholic drinks

- Features of overdosage include confusion, drowsiness, headache, bradycardia, respiratory depression
