Indications
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Alleviating complications of itching, pain, and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergies such as hayfever and urticaria
Pharmacology
- Anti-allergic properties
- Antihistamine properties
- Sustained inhibitory effect on histamine reactions
- Effective in preventing asthmatic attacks
- Reduction of asthma attacks in number, severity, and duration
- Progressive reduction of corticosteroids and/or bronchodilators
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 1 mg twice daily with food, can be increased to 2 mg in severe cases
- Children above 3 years: 1 mg twice daily with food, start with 0.5 to 1 mg if easily sedated
- Elderly: Same as adult dose or as advised by the physician
Interaction
- Potentiate effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohol
- Reversible fall in platelet count with oral antidiabetic agents
Contraindications
- Avoid concurrent use with oral antidiabetic agents
- No evidence of teratogenic effect, but recommendations for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding not given

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Continue previous treatment for a minimum of two weeks after starting Tifen
- Avoid taking charge of vehicle or machinery on first day of treatment
- Patients advised to avoid alcoholic drinks
