Indications

Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
Alleviating complications of itching, pain, and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
Symptomatic treatment of allergy such as hayfever and urticaria

Pharmacology

Has anti-allergic properties
Antihistamine properties
Marked anti-anaphylactic properties
Inhibitory effect on histamine reactions

Dosage & Administration

Adults: 1 mg twice daily with food, can be increased to 2 mg twice daily in severe cases
Children above 3 years: 1 mg twice daily with food
Initial treatment with 0.5 to 1 mg at night for easily sedated patients

Interaction

May potentiate the effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
Reversible fall in platelet count observed with oral antidiabetic agents

Contraindications

Avoid concomitant use with oral antidiabetic agents
Not recommended in pregnancy or when breastfeeding

Drowsiness
Isolated cases of dry mouth and slight dizziness

Pregnancy & Lactation

Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation

Precautions & Warnings

Continue previous treatment for a minimum of two weeks after starting to avoid exacerbation of asthma
Avoid alcoholic drinks
Potentiate the effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohol
