Indications
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma

Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 1 mg twice daily with food
- Maximum adult dose: 2 mg twice daily in severe cases
- Children above 3 years: 1 mg twice daily with food
- Starting dose for easily sedated patients: 0.5 to 1 mg at night
- Elderly dose: Same as adult dose or as advised by the physician
Interaction
- Potentiation of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
- Reversible fall in platelet count observed in some patients
Contraindications
- Avoid use with oral antidiabetic agents
- No evidence of teratogenic effect, but not recommended in pregnancy or when breastfeeding
Side Effects
- Drowsiness
- Occasional dry mouth
- Slight dizziness at the beginning of treatment

- Not recommended in pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Continue previous treatment for a minimum of two weeks after starting Toma
- Special consideration for systemic corticosteroids and ACTH
- Advisory against operating vehicles or machinery during initial treatment
- Potentiation of effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohol
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms may include confusion, drowsiness, headache, bradycardia, and respiratory depression
- Recommended treatment includes gastric lavage or emesis, and general supportive care
