Indications
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Alleviating the complications of itching, pain and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergy such as hayfever, urticaria
Pharmacology
- Anti-allergic properties
- Antihistamine properties
- Anti-anaphylactic properties
- Sustained inhibitory effect on histamine reactions
- Effective in preventing asthmatic attacks
- Sustained mast cell stabilizer effect
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 1 mg twice daily with food, may increase to 2 mg in severe cases
- Children above 3 years: 1 mg twice daily with food, may start with 0.5 to 1 mg at night for sedation risk
- Elderly dosage: Same as adult dose or as advised by physician
Interaction
- Potentiate effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
- Reversible fall in platelet count observed with co-administration of oral antidiabetic agents
- Avoid concomitant use with oral antidiabetic agents
Contraindications
- Avoid using with oral antidiabetic agents
- No evidence of teratogenic effects, but caution recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of teratogenic effects, but not recommended during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Continue previous treatment for at least two weeks after starting Ziten
- Special caution with systemic corticosteroids and ACTH due to possible adrenocortical insufficiency in steroid-dependent patients
- Impairment of reactions during initial treatment
- Avoid alcoholic drinks
- Potentiate the effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohol
