Description
A selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist indicated for prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma, acute prevention of Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB), and relief of symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis (AR).

- Dosage & Administration:
- Adults and adolescents dosage: Montelukast 10 mg tablet once daily
- Pediatric patients dosage for different age groups
- No dosage adjustment in hepatic and renal insufficiency
- Similar pharmacokinetic profile in elderly and younger adults
- Interaction:
- No significant effects on the pharmacokinetics of several drugs
- Reasonable monitoring with cytochrome P450 enzyme inducers
- Arokast used concomitantly with a wide range of commonly prescribed drugs
- Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
- Side Effects:
- Common, Uncommon, Rare adverse reactions based on clinical studies
- Pregnancy & Lactation:
- Crosses the placenta with caution advised during pregnancy and lactation due to lack of sufficient studies
- Precautions & Warnings:
- Not indicated for acute asthma attacks
- Appropriate rescue medication should be available
- Arokast should not be abruptly substituted for corticosteroids
- Not to be used as monotherapy for exercise induced bronchospasm
- Avoidance advised for aspirin-sensitive patients
- Overdose Effects:
- No adverse experiences in the majority of overdosage reports
- Usual supportive measures advised in case of overdose
