Indications
- Maintenance and replacement of fluid, electrolyte, and carbohydrate in patients unable to take nutrients orally
- Treatment of combined water and sodium depletion
- Use in cases of persistent vomiting, surgery, shock, or accidents
Description
- Sterile solution of Dextrose and Sodium Chloride in water for injection
- Each 100 ml contains 5% Dextrose and 0.9 gm Sodium Chloride
Dosage
- Variable dosage depending on clinical condition, age, and body surface area
Administration
- Infusion set and solution check prior to use
- Proper Eurocap handling
- Infusion set connection process
- Venpuncture site preparation and needle insertion
- Infusion start and speed adjustment
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to corn or corn products
Side Effects
- Possible reactions: febrile response, site infection, venous thrombosis, phlebitis, extravasation, hypervolemia
- Discontinue infusion in case of adverse reactions

- FDA pregnancy category C
- Unknown harm to unborn baby or nursing baby
- Consult doctor if pregnant or breast-feeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Administer with caution in congestive heart failure, peripheral or pulmonary edema, impaired renal function, or pre-eclampsia
- Monitor serum glucose concentration
- Discontinue if solution is cloudy or contains particles
