Description

M-Kast is indicated for prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma, acute prevention of Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB), and relief of symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis (AR): Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis.

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults and Adolescents:
    • Montelukast 10 mg tablet once daily
  • Pediatric Patients:
    • 6-14 years: Montelukast 5 mg tablet once daily
    • 2-5 years: Montelukast 4 mg tablet once daily
    • 6 months-5 years: Montelukast 4 mg oral granules once daily
  • Hepatic Insufficiency: No dosage adjustment required
  • Renal Insufficiency: No dosage adjustment recommended
  • Elderly Use: No dosage adjustment required

Interaction

M-Kast has been administered with other therapies routinely used in the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma with no apparent increase in adverse reactions. The recommended clinical dose of M-Kast did not have clinically important effects on the pharmacokinetics of several drugs.

Contraindications

Montelukast is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any component of this product.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Montelukast crosses the placenta in animal studies; caution should be exercised when given to a nursing mother.

Precautions & Warnings

M-Kast is not indicated for use in the reversal of bronchospasm in acute asthma attacks. Patients should have appropriate rescue medication available. While the dose of inhaled corticosteroid may be reduced gradually, M-Kast should not be abruptly substituted for inhaled or oral corticosteroids.

Overdose Effects

Adverse experiences in overdosage reports include abdominal pain, somnolence, thirst, headache, vomiting, and psychomotor hyperactivity. Usual supportive measures are recommended in the event of overdose.
