Description
Montilab is a selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist indicated for prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma, acute prevention of Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB), and relief of symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis (AR) including seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

Pharmacology
Montelukast is a selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor (CysLT1), correlating with the pathophysiology of signs and symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis.
DosageAndAdministration
- AdultsAndAdolescents: 10 mg tablet once daily
- PediatricPatients:
- 6 to 14 years: 5 mg tablet once daily
- 2 to 5 years: 4 mg tablet once daily
- 6 months to 5 years: 4 mg oral granules once daily
- HepaticInsufficiency: No dosage adjustment required in mild-to-moderate hepatic insufficiency
- RenalInsufficiency: No dosage adjustment recommended in patients with renal insufficiency
- ElderlyUse: No dosage adjustment required
Interaction
Montilab's recommended clinical dose did not have clinically important effects on the pharmacokinetics of other drugs commonly used with no evidence of clinical adverse interactions.

Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component of the product

PrecautionsAndWarnings
- ReversalOfBronchospasm: Not indicated for use in the reversal of bronchospasm in acute asthma attacks
- RescueMedication: Patients should have appropriate rescue medication available
- Monotherapy: Should not be used as monotherapy for the treatment and management of exercise induced bronchospasm
- AspirinSensitivity: Not shown to truncate response to aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in aspirin-sensitive asthmatic patients

No adverse experiences in the majority of reports; usual supportive measures are recommended in the event of overdose
