Indications
- Combined water and sodium depletion
- Maintenance and replacement of fluid, electrolyte and carbohydrate
- Patients unable to take fluid and nutrients by mouth
- Persistent vomiting
- During and after surgery
- Shock or accidents
Description
- Sterile solution of Dextrose and Sodium Chloride in water for injection
- Each 100 ml contains 5.0 gm Dextrose Monohydrate and 0.9 gm Sodium Chloride
- Represents 5% Dextrose in isotonic Sodium Chloride solution
- Approximate concentration of sodium and chloride ions is 150 mmol/lit

Contraindications
- Allergy to corn or corn products

- Extravasation and hypervolemia

Precautions & Warnings
- Administration caution for patients with congestive heart failure, oedema, impaired renal function, or pre-eclampsia
- Need for careful monitoring of serum glucose concentration
- Possible concurrent use of insulin for diabetic patients
- Immediate discontinuation if rigor arises
- Avoid use if solution is cloudy, contains particles, or after expiry date
