Indications
- Indicated in combined water and sodium depletion
- Used in maintenance and replacement of fluid, electrolyte and carbohydrate
Description
- Sterile solution of Dextrose and Sodium Chloride in water for injection
- Each 100 ml contains 5% Dextrose and 0.9 gm of Sodium Chloride
Dosage
Variable dosage based on clinical condition, age, and body surface area
Administration
- Check infusion set and solution prior to use
- Insert spike of administration set to Eurocap and fit the connector firmly to the needle
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to corn or corn products
Side Effects
- Febrile response
- Infection at injection site
- Venous thrombosis or phlebitis
- Hypervolemia
- Extravasation
Pregnancy & Lactation
- FDA pregnancy category C
- Not known if it harms unborn baby
- Not known if it passes into breast milk
- Consult doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Administer with caution in patients with heart failure, edema, impaired renal function
- Monitor serum glucose concentration
- Discontinue if solution is cloudy or expired
