Indications

• Relieves dry cough
• Pre & post-operative cough sedation
• Treatment for acute cough of any etiology
• Treatment for whooping cough
• Treatment for cough due to acute lower respiratory tract infections

Pharmacology

• Acts directly on the brain's cough center
• Suppresses cough
• Safe and non-sedating
• Rapid and complete absorption after oral administration
• Maximum concentration reached within 9 hours
• Extremely protein-bound
• Plasma elimination half-life is about 13 hours
• Active metabolites have antitussive action

Dosage & Administration

• Adult dosage for Butamirate Citrate 50 mg tablet: 2-3 tablets daily
• Adult dosage for Butamirate Citrate syrup: 15 ml 4 times daily
• Children & adolescents dosage varies based on age
• Pediatric drops dosage for different age groups

Interaction

• Concomitant use with expectorants should be avoided

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient

Side Effects

• Good tolerance observed
• Adverse reactions such as rash, nausea, diarrhea, and vertigo in rare cases
• Reactions resolve after dose reduction or treatment withdrawal

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Avoid use during the first trimester of pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings

• Avoid concomitant use with expectorants
• Doctor consultation if cough persists for more than 7 days (3 days in children under 12)

Overdose Effects

• Symptoms of accidental overdose include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of balance, and hypotension
• Emergency procedures: activated charcoal, saline laxatives, standard cardio-respiratory resuscitation
