Indications

Pharmacology

  • Acts directly on brain's cough center
  • Non-sedating
  • Rapid and complete absorption after oral administration

Dosage & Administration

  • Use in adult:
    • Butamirate Citrate 50 mg tablet: 2-3 tablets daily
    • Butamirate Citrate syrup: 15 ml 4 times daily
  • Use in children & adolescents:
    • Butamirate Citrate 50 mg tablet for adolescents over 12 years old: 1-2 tablets daily
    • Butamirate Citrate syrup for children (3-6 yrs): 5 ml 3 times daily
    • Butamirate Citrate syrup for children (6-12 yrs): 10 ml 3 times daily
    • Butamirate Citrate syrup for adolescent: 15 ml 3 times daily
    • Butamirate Citrate pediatric drops for children (2 months-1 yr): 0.50 ml 4 times daily
    • Butamirate Citrate pediatric drops for children (1-3 yrs): 0.75 ml 4 times daily

Interaction

Concomitant use with expectorants should be avoided

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient

  • Good tolerance
  • Adverse reactions such as rash
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vertigo observed in rare cases

Pregnancy & Lactation

Avoid use in first trimester of pregnancy, caution in remainder of pregnancy, weigh benefits against risks during breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings

  • Avoid concomitant use with expectorants
  • Consult doctor if cough persists for more than 7 days (more than 3 days in children younger than 12 years)

Overdose Effects

  • Symptoms include drowsiness
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Loss of balance
  • Hypotension
