Indications
- Relieves dry cough
- Pre & post-operative cough sedation
- Acute cough of any etiology
- Whooping cough
- Cough due to acute lower respiratory tract infections
Pharmacology
- Acts directly on the brain's cough center
- Suppresses cough
- Non-sedating
- Rapid and complete absorption after oral administration
- Extremely protein-bound
- Plasma elimination half-life of about 13 hours
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 2-3 tablets daily
- Adult syrup dosage: 15 ml 4 times daily
- Adolescent dosage: 1-2 tablets daily
- Children (3-6 yrs) syrup dosage: 5 ml 3 times daily
- Children (6-12 yrs) syrup dosage: 10 ml 3 times daily
- Adolescent syrup dosage: 15 ml 3 times daily
- Pediatric drops dosage (2 months- 1 yr): 0.50 ml 4 times daily
- Pediatric drops dosage (1-3 yrs): 0.75 ml 4 times daily
Interactions
- Concomitant use with expectorants should be avoided
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient

- Good tolerance
- Adverse reactions: rash, nausea, diarrhea, vertigo
- Resolved after dose reduction or treatment withdrawal
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
- Caution during the remainder of pregnancy
- Careful consideration during breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Suppresses the cough reflex
- Avoid concomitant use with expectorants
- Consult a doctor if cough persists for more than 7 days
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms: drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of balance, hypotension
- Emergency procedures: activated charcoal, saline laxatives, cardio-respiratory resuscitation
