Indications
- Relieves dry (non-productive) cough
- Pre & post-operative cough sedation
- Acute cough of any etiology
- Whooping cough
- Cough due to acute lower respiratory tract infections
Pharmacology
- Acts directly on the brain's cough center
- Rapidly and completely absorbed after oral administration
- Has active metabolites with antitussive action
- Safe and non-sedating
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for adults: Butamirate Citrate 50 mg tablet - 2-3 tablets daily
- Dosage for children: Butamirate Citrate syrup - as per age and physician's recommendation
Interaction
- Concomitant use with expectorants should be avoided
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient
Side Effects
- Tolerance is good
- Adverse reactions such as rash, nausea, diarrhea, and vertigo have been observed in rare cases
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
- Caution advised during the remainder of pregnancy and breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Concomitant use with expectorants should be avoided
- Consult a doctor if cough persists for more than 7 days
Overdose Effects
- Accidental overdose symptoms include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of balance, and hypotension
