Indications
- Relieves dry cough
- Pre & post-operative cough sedation

Pharmacology
- Acts directly on the brain's cough center
- Safe and non-sedating
- Rapid absorption after oral administration
- Sustained-release tablet with maximum concentration within 9 hours
- Protein-bound with plasma elimination half-life of about 13 hours
- Active metabolites with antitussive action
Dosage & Administration
- Butamirate Citrate 50 mg tablet: 2-3 tablets daily for adults
- Butamirate Citrate syrup: 15 ml 4 times daily for adults
- Adolescent over 12 years old: 1-2 tablets daily
- Children (3-6 yrs): 5 ml 3 times daily
- Children (6-12 yrs): 10 ml 3 times daily
- Adolescent: 15 ml 3 times daily
- Children (2 months-1 yr): 0.50 ml 4 times daily
- Children (1-3 yrs): 0.75 ml 4 times daily
Interaction
Concomitant use with expectorants should be avoided
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient
Side Effects
- Good tolerance
- Adverse reactions such as rash, nausea, diarrhea, vertigo in rare cases
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid use during first trimester of pregnancy
- Use with caution during remainder of pregnancy
- Benefits in breastfeeding should be carefully weighed against risks
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid concomitant use with expectorants
- Consult doctor if cough persists for more than 7 days (more than 3 days in children younger than 12 years of age)
Overdose Effects
Symptoms include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of balance, hypotension. Follow standard emergency procedures.
