Coprin (10 mg+30 mg+1.25 mg)/5 ml (Syrup)

Indications

• Temporarily relieves non-productive cough due to minor throat or bronchial irritation
• Relieves runny nose
• Relieves sneezing
• Relieves itching of the nose or throat
• Relieves itchy & watery eyes
• Relieves nasal congestion

Composition

• Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP 20 mg
• Phenylephrine Hydrochloride BP 10 mg
• Triprolidine Hydrochloride BP 2.5 mg

Pharmacology

• Mixture of antitussive, decongestant, and antihistamine agent
• Dextromethorphan as a non-narcotic antitussive
• Phenylephrine as a decongestant shrinking blood vessels
• Triprolidine as an antihistamine relieving allergy symptoms

Dosage & Administration

• Adults & Children over 12 years: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) 4 times a day every 4 hours interval
• 6-12 years: 1/2 teaspoonful 4 times a day every 4 hours interval
• Use in children and adolescents: Physician's advice required for children less than 6 years

Interaction

• May cause serious drug interaction with certain MAO inhibitors
• Should not be taken with isocarboxazid, methylene blue, moclobemide, etc.

Contraindications

• Avoid in patients with liver disease or asthma
• Contraindicated in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 2 weeks post-treatment

Side Effects

• May cause drowsiness and constipation
• Other side effects include GIT discomfort

• No specific data on use during pregnancy & lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• May cause drowsiness
• Avoid driving or operating machinery while affected
• Use caution in patients with epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, glaucoma, hepatic disease, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism

Overdose Effects

• In cases of overdose, hospital admission strongly advised
• May produce respiratory depression, paranoid psychosis, delusions, hallucinations, and convulsion
