Decoff (10 mg+30 mg+1.25 mg)/5 ml (Syrup)

Indications

• Relief of non-productive cough due to minor throat or bronchial irritation
• Relief of runny nose
• Relief of sneezing
• Relief of itching of the nose or throat
• Relief of itchy and watery eyes
• Relief of nasal congestion

Composition

• 5 ml syrup contains Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP 20 mg
• 5 ml syrup contains Phenylephrine Hydrochloride BP 10 mg
• 5 ml syrup contains Triprolidine Hydrochloride BP 2.5 mg

Pharmacology

• Contains antitussive, decongestant, and antihistamine agents
• Dextromethorphan is a non-narcotic antitussive agent
• Phenylephrine shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passage
• Triprolidine relieves symptoms of allergy, hay fever, and the common cold

Dosage & Administration

• Adults & Children over 12 years: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) 4 times a day
• 6-12 years: 1/2 teaspoonful 4 times a day
• Use in children and adolescents under 6 years only under physician's advice

Interaction

• May cause serious drug interaction with certain MAO inhibitors
• Avoid taking specific MAO inhibitors during treatment

Contraindications

• Avoid in patients with liver disease or asthma
• Contraindicated in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 2 weeks from stopping such treatment

Side Effects

• May cause drowsiness
• May cause constipation
• May cause GIT discomfort

Precautions & Warnings

• May cause drowsiness
• Avoid driving or operating machinery if affected
• Use with caution in patients with epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, glaucoma, hepatic disease, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism
• Consult a physician if symptoms do not improve within one week or accompanied by high fever

Overdose Effects

• Hospital admission strongly advised in cases of overdose
• Overdose may produce respiratory depression, paranoid psychosis, delusions, hallucinations, and convulsions
