Indications

• Temporary relief of non-productive cough
• Relief of runny nose
• Relief of sneezing
• Relief of itching of the nose or throat
• Relief of itchy & watery eyes
• Relief of nasal congestion

Composition

• Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP 20 mg
• Phenylephrine Hydrochloride BP 10 mg
• Triprolidine Hydrochloride BP 2.5 mg

Pharmacology

• Mixture of antitussive, decongestant, and antihistamine agent
• Central action on the cough center in the medulla
• Decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passage
• Antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms

Dosage & Administration

• Adults & Children over 12 years: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) 4 times a day every 4 hours interval
• 6-12 years: 1/2 teaspoonful 4 times a day every 4 hours interval
• Use in children and adolescents: A physician's advice should be obtained before administering

Interaction

• Serious drug interaction with certain MAO inhibitors
• Avoid taking specific MAO inhibitors during treatment

Contraindications

• Avoid in patients with liver disease or asthma
• Contraindicated in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 2 weeks from stopping such treatment

Side Effects

• May cause drowsiness and constipation
• GIT discomfort
• No apparent evidence of physical dependence of the morphine type

• No specific data on use during pregnancy & lactation

• Avoid driving or operating machinery if affected
• Use with caution in patients with specific conditions

Overdose Effects

• Hospital admission strongly advised in cases of overdose
• May produce respiratory depression, paranoid psychosis, delusions, hallucinations, and convulsion
