Description
- Dextrop is a combination cough syrup that provides relief from symptoms due to common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults & Children over 12 years: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) 4 times a day every 4 hours interval.
- 6-12 years: 1/2 teaspoonful 4 times a day every 4 hours interval.
- Use in children and adolescents: A physician's advice should be obtained before administering this combination to children less than 6 years.
Composition
- Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP 20 mg
- Phenylephrine Hydrochloride BP 10 mg
- Triprolidine Hydrochloride BP 2.5 mg
Indications
- Non-productive cough due to minor throat or bronchial irritation
- Runny Nose
- Sneezing
- Itching of the nose or throat
- Itchy & watery eyes
- Nasal congestion
Pharmacology
- Dextromethorphan acts on the cough center in the medulla.
- Phenylephrine shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passage.
- Triprolidine is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms.
Interaction
- Avoid taking certain MAO inhibitors with this medication.
Contraindications
- Avoid in patients with liver disease or asthma.
- Contraindicated in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 2 weeks from stopping such treatment.
