Dixar Plus (20 mg+10 mg+2.5 mg)/5 ml (Syrup)

Indications

• relieves cough due to minor throat or bronchial irritation
• relieves runny nose
• relieves sneezing
• relieves itching of the nose or throat
• relieves itchy, watery eyes
• relieves nasal congestion
• reduces swelling of nasal passages

Pharmacology

• mixture of antitussive, decongestant, and antihistamine agent
• dextromethorphan as a safe, effective, non-narcotic antitussive agent
• phenylephrine as a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels
• triprolidine provides relief in conditions triggered by histamine release

Dosage

• 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) every 4 hours for adults & children 12 years and older
• ½ teaspoonful (2.5 ml) every 4 hours for children 6 to under 12 years
• caution for children 2 to 6 years as advised by the physician
• not to be used in children below 2 years old

Administration

• can be taken with or without food
• measuring liquid doses carefully with the provided device

Interaction

• serious drug interaction with certain MAO inhibitors
• exercise caution with antihistamines, antispasmodics, beta blockers, and more

Contraindications

• avoid in patients with liver disease or asthma
• contraindicated in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors
• contraindicated in patients with severe hypertension or coronary artery disease

Side Effects

• may cause drowsiness, dizziness, and constipation
• other side effects may include GIT discomfort, transient hypertension, dry mouth, etc.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• best avoided during pregnancy and lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• may cause drowsiness, avoid driving or operating machinery
• caution in patients with epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, glaucoma, and more

Overdose Effects

• hospital admission strongly advised in cases of overdose
• may produce respiratory depression, paranoid psychosis, delusions, hallucinations, and convulsions
