Indications

Composition

  • Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP 20 mg
  • Phenylephrine Hydrochloride BP 10 mg
  • Triprolidine Hydrochloride BP 2.5 mg

Pharmacology

  • Antitussive, decongestant, and antihistamine agent
  • Dextromethorphan - central action on the cough center
  • Phenylephrine - decongestant that shrinks blood vessels
  • Triprolidine - antihistamine with mild sedative properties

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults & Children over 12 years: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) 4 times a day every 4 hours interval
  • 6-12 years: 1/2 teaspoonful 4 times a day every 4 hours interval
  • Use in children and adolescents: Physician's advice required

Interaction

  • Serious interaction with MAO inhibitors
  • Avoid certain MAO inhibitors during treatment with this medication

Contraindications

  • Avoid in patients with liver disease or asthma
  • Contraindicated in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 2 weeks from stopping such treatment

Side Effects

  • May cause drowsiness and constipation
  • Other side effects: GIT discomfort

Precautions & Warnings

  • May cause drowsiness
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery
  • Use caution in patients with epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, glaucoma, hepatic disease, etc.
  • Consult a physician if symptoms do not improve within one week or are accompanied with high fever

Overdose Effects

  • Respiratory depression, paranoid psychosis, hallucinations, convulsion in case of overdose
