Description
- Broxidil is indicated in productive cough, acute and chronic inflammatory disorders of upper and lower respiratory tracts, inflammatory diseases of the rhinopharyngeal tract, asthmatic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, chronic pneumonia, etc. It improves sputum rheology by hydrating mechanism leading to liquefaction of mucus in the respiratory tract, facilitates expectoration, stimulates the production of surfactant, reduces bronchial hyperactivity, has anti-inflammatory properties, and traditionally improves airway patency. It is contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to Ambroxol or Bromhexine. Its side effects include gastrointestinal side effects and rare allergic responses. It should be given cautiously to patients with gastric and duodenal ulceration or convulsive disorders. Broxidil should not be taken simultaneously with antitussives like Codeine, and should be stored in a dry place at a temperature not exceeding 30°C.

Materials
Technical Specifications
- Ambroxol is the active metabolite of bromhexine and possesses a greater bronchosecretolytic effect than bromhexine. It stimulates production of phospholipids of surfactant by alveolar cells, reduces bronchial hyperactivity, and has anti-inflammatory properties owing to the inhibitory effect on the production of cellular cytokines and arachidonic acid metabolites.
