Indications
- Respiratory tract disorders

Pharmacology
- Oral mucolytic agent
- Disrupts acid mucopolysaccharide fibres
- Produces less viscous mucus
- Facilitates expectoration
- Rapid & complete absorption
- Widely distributed in body tissues
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose for adults and children
- 10 ml (2 teaspoons) 3 times daily for adults & children over 12 years
- 5 ml (1 teaspoon) 3 times daily for children 6-12 years
- 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoon) 3 times daily for children 2-6 years
- Not recommended for children under 2 years without advice
Interaction
- No known significant interactions with other drugs
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Bromhexine Hydrochloride
Side Effects
- Occasional gastrointestinal side effects
- Transient rise in serum aminotransferase values
- Headache
- Vertigo (dizziness)
- Allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Special care recommended during pregnancy
- Benefits of bromhexine must be assessed against possible effects on children
- Not recommended for lactating mothers due to expected entry into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease
- Care advisable in asthmatic patients
- Use caution in patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment
