Pharmacology
- Oral mucolytic agent
- Disrupts acid mucopolysaccharide fibres
- Produces less viscous mucus
- Eases expectoration
- Rapid & complete absorption from gastrointestinal tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 10 ml (2 teaspoons) 3 times daily
- Children over 12 years: 10 ml (2 teaspoons) 3 times daily
- Children 6-12 years: 5 ml (1 teaspoon) 3 times daily
- Children 2-6 years: 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoon) 3 times daily
- Not recommended for children under 2 years without advice
Interaction
- No known significant interactions with other drugs
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Bromhexine Hydrochloride

- Gastrointestinal side effects
- Transient rise in serum aminotransferase values

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Special care recommended during pregnancy
- Assess benefits against effects on children
- Not recommended during lactation due to excretion in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with care in patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease
- Care advisable in asthmatic patients
- Reduced clearance in severe hepatic or renal impairment
