Pharmacology
- Breaks disulphide bonds in mucus
- Alters local ionic charges

Dosage & Administration
- Adults initial dosage: 2250 mg daily in divided doses
- Adults reduced dosage: 1500 mg daily in divided doses
- Children normal daily dose: 20 mg/kg body weight in divided doses
- Children (2-5 years): 62.5-125 mg 4 times daily
- Children (6-12 years): 250 mg 3 times daily
- Infants: Dosage not established
