Honycol (0.75 ml+1.93 ml)/5 ml (Syrup)

Indications

• Relief of dry, irritating cough
• Relief of sore throat
• Assists in relieving productive cough

Pharmacology

• Glycerol is an osmotic dehydrating agent
• Possesses hygroscopic and lubricating properties
• Causes plasma osmolality
• Leads to movement of water into plasma from extravascular spaces via osmosis

Dosage & Administration

• Adult dose: Two 5 ml spoonful (10 ml)
• Children (1 to 5 years) dose: One 5 ml spoonful (5 ml)
• Children (3 months to 1 year) dose: 1/2 to 1 spoonful (2.5 to 5 ml)
• Dose should be repeated three or four times a day as required

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity or intolerance to any of the ingredients

Side Effects

• Unlikely to cause side effects unless the patient is allergic to the ingredients

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Safety during pregnancy and lactation not established
• Not considered to constitute a hazard during pregnancy and lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Diabetics should take note of the carbohydrate content
• Not recommended for children under one year
• Keep all medicines out of the reach of children

Overdose Effects

• Overdose not expected to cause problems
• Treatment would be symptomatic and supportive
