Imovane 7.5 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Short-term treatment of insomnia
• Symptomatic relief of difficulty in falling asleep
• Relief of frequent nocturnal awakenings
• Relief of early morning awakenings

Pharmacology

• Short-acting hypnotic agent
• Structurally unrelated to existing hypnotics
• Similar pharmacological profile to benzodiazepines
• Hypnotic, sedative, anxiolytic, anti-convulsant, muscle-relaxant properties
• Agonist action at central receptors belonging to the GABA A macromolecular complex

Dosage

• Recommended initial dose of 3.75 mg
• Can be increased to 5 mg or 7.5 mg if clinically indicated
• Higher doses may result in impaired driving and other activities that require full alertness

Administration

• Treatment should not exceed 7-10 consecutive days
• Use for more than 2-3 consecutive weeks requires complete re-evaluation
• Prescriptions should be for short-term use (7-10 days)
• Should not be prescribed in quantities exceeding a 1-month supply

Interaction

• More pronounced side effects when co-administered with alcohol
• Potential interaction with tranquilizers, sleeping pills, antihistamines, anticonvulsants, narcotic analgesics, antipsychotics, antidepressants

Contraindications

• Severe hepatic insufficiency
• Severe impairment of respiratory function

Precautions & Warnings

• Do not exceed prescribed dosage

• Avoid alcohol while taking this medication
• Discuss history of sleepwalking with doctor
• Discuss conditions affecting sleep with doctor

Use in Special Populations

• Not indicated for patients under 18 years of age
