Indications

• Emotional disturbances
• Functional disturbances in cardiovascular and respiratory systems
• Disturbances in gastrointestinal and urinary tracts
• Psychosomatic disorders
• Emotional reactions to chronic organic disease

Pharmacology

• Binds to GABA-A receptor
• Reduces tension and anxiety
• Sedative and muscle-relaxant properties
• Potentiates inhibitory effects

Dosage

• Standard dosage: 1.5-3 mg up to three times daily
• Severe cases/hospital treatment: 6-12 mg 2-3 times daily
• Elderly and debilitated patients require lower doses
• Children: 0.1-0.3 mg/kg bodyweight

Interaction

• Enhanced sedative effects when combined with other centrally active drugs
• Prolonged elimination half-life with cimetidine co-administration
• Avoid concomitant intake with alcohol

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to bromazepam
• Severe respiratory insufficiency
• Severe hepatic insufficiency
• Sleep apnea syndrome

• Muscle weakness
• Confusion
• Headache
• Ataxia
• Anterograde amnesia

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Safety during pregnancy not established
• Avoid use during lactation due to excretion in breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

• Risk of development of physical and psychological dependence
• Greater risk in predisposed patients with history of alcohol
• Gradual dosage decrease recommended
• Not recommended for primary treatment of sleeplessness caused by psychotic illness
• Caution while driving or using machinery
