Pharmacology

Powerful psychotropic agent, reduces tension and anxiety, sedative and muscle-relaxant properties, binds to GABA-A receptor, potentiates inhibitory effects

Dosage

Standard dosage: 1.5-3 mg up to three times daily
Severe cases dosage: 6-12 mg 2 or 3 times daily for 8-12 weeks
Elderly and debilitated patients: Lower doses required
Children: Dose adjusted to low bodyweight

Administration

Oral administration in the form of tablets

Interaction

Enhanced sedative effects with centrally active drugs
Prolonged elimination half-life with cimetidine
Avoid concomitant intake with alcohol

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to bromazepam
Severe respiratory insufficiency
Severe hepatic insufficiency
Sleep apnea syndrome
