Indications

Pharmacology
Bromazepam is a powerful psychotropic agent. It selectively reduces tension and anxiety in lower dosage, and has sedative and muscle-relaxant properties in higher dosage. It binds to the GABA-A receptor producing a conformational change and potentiating its inhibitory effects. Other neurotransmitters are not influenced.
Dosage
- Standard dosage: 1.5-3 mg up to three times daily for outpatient therapy
- Severe cases dosage: 6-12 mg 2 or 3 times daily (in hospital)
- Elderly and debilitated patients require lower doses
- Dose adjustment for children based on bodyweight

Bromazepam tablets are for oral administration
Interaction
Enhanced sedative effects when combined with other centrally active drugs such as antidepressants, hypnotics, narcotics, antipsychotics, sedatives, antiepileptic drugs, sedative antihistamines, anesthetics. Cimetidine may prolong the elimination half-life. Alcohol should be avoided.
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to bromazepam, severe respiratory insufficiency, severe hepatic insufficiency, sleep apnea syndrome

Pregnancy & Lactation
Safety not established during pregnancy. Avoid use during lactation due to excretion in breast milk

- May lead to physical and psychological dependence
- Greater risk of withdrawal symptoms in predisposed patients with history of alcohol
- Caution while driving or using machineries
