Indications

Pharmacology

Powerful psychotropic agent, reduces tension and anxiety, sedative and muscle-relaxant properties, binds to GABA-A receptor, potentiates inhibitory effects

Standard Dosage

1.5-3 mg up to three times daily for outpatient therapy

Severe Cases Dosage

6-12 mg 2 or 3 times daily, overall treatment generally should not be more than 8-12 weeks

Elderly and Debilitated Patients Dosage

Require lower doses

Children Dosage

Usually not indicated, if used, doses should be adjusted to low bodyweight

Interaction

Enhanced sedative effects when combined with other centrally active drugs
Prolonged elimination half-life when co-administered with cimetidine
Avoid concomitant intake with alcohol

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to bromazepam
Severe respiratory insufficiency
Severe hepatic insufficiency
Sleep apnea syndrome

Pregnancy & Lactation

Safety during pregnancy not established, use should be avoided during lactation

Precautions & Warnings

May lead to development of physical and psychological dependence
Greater risk of withdrawal and rebound phenomena after abrupt discontinuation
Not recommended for primary treatment of sleeplessness caused by psychotic illness
Caution with driving or using machineries
