Indications
- Psychoses
- Depression with or without anxiety
Pharmacology
- Thioxanthene antipsychotic
- Dopamine receptor inhibitor
Dosage
- Oral administration
- Intramuscular administration
- Maximum daily dose of 3 mg for depression in adults
- Dosing adjustment for the elderly
- Initial dose of 3-9 mg for psychoses in adults
- Intramuscular test dose of 20 mg for adult psychoses
- Maintenance dose of 50-400 mg for severe cases
- Dosage for elderly patients in relation to age
- Discontinuation if no improvement after 1 week
Administration
- Can be taken with or without food
Interaction
- Potentiation of antimuscarinic drugs' adverse effects
- Reduced efficacy of levodopa
- Increased extrapyramidal symptoms with dopamine antagonists
