Description
Flupentixol and Melitracen tablet is indicated for anxiety, depression, apathy, psychogenic depression, depressive neurosses, masked depression, menopausal depressions, dysphoria and depression in alcoholics and drug addicts. It contains flupentixol with anxiolytic and antidepressant properties and melitracen with activating properties. The usual adult dosage is 2 tablets orally daily in the morning and noon. It may enhance the response to alcohol, barbiturates and other CNS depressants and interact with MAO-inhibitors. Contraindications include immediate recovery phase after myocardial infarction, untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, and acute alcohol, barbiturate and opiate intoxications. Side effects are rare but may include transient restlessness and insomnia. It should preferably not be given during pregnancy and lactation. Precautions should be taken with patients previously treated with tranquillizers with sedative effect. In cases of overdosage, symptoms of intoxications by melitracen may dominate, supported by symptomatic and supportive measures. It belongs to the therapeutic class of combined anxiolytics & anti-depressant drugs. Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C in a dry place, protected from light, and out of reach of children.
