Pharmacology
Consists of flupentixol-a neuroleptic with anxiolytic and antidepressant properties and melitracen-a bipolar thymoleptic with activating properties
Dosage & Administration
- Usually 2 tablets orally daily in the morning and noon for adults
- 1 tablet in the morning for elderly patients
- Maintenance dose of usually 1 tablet orally in the morning
Interaction
May enhance the response to alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants
Contraindications
- Immediate recovery phase after myocardial infarction
- Defects in bundle-branch conduction
- Untreated narrow-angle glaucoma
- Acute alcohol, barbiturate, and opiate intoxications
- Not recommended for excitable or overactive patients
- Patients who have received an MAO-inhibitor within two weeks
Side Effects
Rare in recommended doses, could include transient restlessness and insomnia
Pregnancy & Lactation
Preferably not to be given during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
Tranquillizers with sedative effect should be withdrawn gradually if previously the patient has been treated with them
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of intoxications by melitracen and extrapyramidal symptoms due to flupentixol
