Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 2 tablets orally daily in the morning and noon, may increase to 2 tablets in severe cases
- Elderly patients: 1 tablet in the morning
- Maintenance dose: Usually 1 tablet orally in the morning
- Additional treatment with a sedative in the acute phase is recommended for insomnia or severe restlessness
Interactions
- Enhances the response to alcohol, barbiturates and other CNS depressants
- Simultaneous administration of MAO-inhibitors may cause hypertensive crises
- Reduces the antihypertensive effect of guanethidine and similar acting compounds
Contraindications
- Immediate recovery phase after myocardial infarction
- Defects in bundle-branch conduction
- Untreated narrow-angle glaucoma
- Acute alcohol, barbiturate and opiate intoxications
- Recent MAO-inhibitor use within two weeks
- Not recommended for excitable or overactive patients

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Preferably not to be given during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Previous treatment with sedative tranquillizers should be withdrawn gradually

- Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be administered
