Indications

• Intra Uterine Growth Retardation (IUGR)
• Threatened abortion
• Habitual abortion
• Threatened premature delivery

Description

• Oral gestagen
• Pregnancy-maintaining action without hormonal side-effects
• Stimulates endocrine function of the trophoblast
• Stimulates placenta to produce more progesterone
• Well-tolerated with no important side-effects

Pharmacology

• Relatively weak progestational effect on human endometrium
• Stimulates synthesis of progesterone in the human placenta
• Increases production of specific placental enzymes
• Has no estrogenic or androgenic properties
• No adverse effects on adrenal function

• Reduced dosage if symptoms improve

Contraindications

• Breast Cancer or history of breast problems
• Severe liver disease
• Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
• Toxaemia of Pregnancy
• Crisis Seizures, Migraines

Side Effects

• Gastrointestinal complaints such as vomiting, nausea, epigastric discomfort

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Safe for use during pregnancy
• Discontinue after delivery to avoid affecting a nursing infant

Precautions & Warnings

• Cautious use for patients with specific conditions

Use in Special Populations

• Not suitable for children younger than 16 years old

Overdose Effects

• Symptoms of overdose such as unusual drowsiness, rapid pulse, fainting, unusual muscle movement or rigidity, seizures, loss of consciousness
