Pharmacology
- Combination of flupentixol and melitracen with anxiolytic and activating properties
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: Usually 2 tablets orally daily in the morning and noon
- Elderly patients: 1 tablet in the morning
- Maintenance dose: Usually 1 tablet orally in the morning
Interaction
- Enhances response to alcohol, barbiturates and other CNS depressants
- Simultaneous administration of MAO-inhibitors may cause hypertensive crises
- Neuroleptics and thymoleptics reduce the antihypertensive effect of guanethidine
- Thymoleptics enhance the effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline
Contraindications
- Immediate recovery phase after myocardial infarction
- Defects in bundle-branch conduction
- Untreated narrow-angle glaucoma
- Acute alcohol, barbiturate and opiate intoxications
- Not recommended for excitable or overactive patients
- Patients who have received an MAO-inhibitor within two weeks
Side Effects
- Rare side effects: transient restlessness and insomnia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Preferably not given during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Gradual withdrawal if previously treated with sedative tranquillizers
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms dominated by anticholinergic nature
- Extrapyramidal symptoms due to flupentixol
- Symptomatic and supportive treatment required
- Gastric lavage and activated charcoal administration
- Measures aimed at supporting respiratory and cardiovascular systems
- Use of diazepam for convulsions
